This festival marks the Scottish national day, a time to embrace Scottish culture with traditional food and music, and in Scotland, it heralds the start of the winter festival season. Overnewton Castle itself, built by Scotsman William Taylor in 1849, offers a fitting backdrop. Originally a bluestone homestead, it was transformed into a miniature Scottish Baronial Castle after Taylor’s trip to Scotland in 1859, adding a stately two-story wing, a dairy, butcher shop, and billiard room. Today, the castle stands as a historic gem, committed to sharing Keilor’s fascinating Scottish heritage.
The festival will span the castle’s four-acre estate, offering both indoor and outdoor activities. Guests can purchase food and drinks from on-site markets or bring their own picnic to enjoy in the gardens. The Ballroom will host a ceilidh at various times throughout the day, while Highland dancers and pipers will perform on the lawn. For families, pony rides and face painting will be available in the gardens, and a craft market will be set up in the car park.
